Four (4) Obstetric Fistula clients were on Thursday, 21st November, 2019 discharged after a brief discharge ceremony.
The repaired clients who came from Delta, Cross River, Abia and Ebonyi States were advised by the Medical Director, Assoc. Prof. Johnson A. Obuna to stay away from sex for at least a period of three (3) months to allow proper healing. Prof. Obuna enjoined them to ensure to go to Family Planning Unit of the hospital to be properly counselled on the best method to adopt as pregnancy should not be entertained until after one (1) year. He also stated that National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki will soon commence antenatal and postnatal services, especially for repaired fistula clients who are ready to start having children again.
He enjoined the repaired clients to spread the news about the hospital to other women who may need its services.
Dr. Henry Uro-Chukwu, while giving a vote of thanks, called on philanthropists, NGOs, international agencies and public-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the hospital through provision of funding and hospital materials to help the Centre scale-up and expand its activities, and to reach more women with the scourge.
The four clients thanked the management of the hospital as they received financial support to aid their transportation back home.
