Before the commencement of the first Fistula Pool Effort for the year 2020, National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki had a visit from representatives of  Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, led by Mrs. Anne Alliu, Director, Women and Gender Department.

The Team’s visit was in a bid to support the hospital in its re-integration and social rehabilitation efforts especially for the repaired fistula clients.

In her introductory message, Mrs. Anne Alliu highlighted the challenges faced by fistula clients especially the poor and uneducated rural women. She stated that their involvement was informed by the gender-related nature and the need for the elimination of stigma at various levels.

The Medical Director, Professor Johnson A. Obuna, welcomed the group and expressed his happiness in the response of Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, especially the representatives from Women and Gender Department. He appreciated the important role the group played, and called for further assistance in the areas of rehabilitation and re-integration.
